Scientists discover new organ in the throat

From Live Science.com (Oct. 20, 2020):

Scientists have discovered a new organ: a set of salivary glands set deep in the upper part of the throat.

This nasopharynx region — behind the nose — was not thought to host anything but microscopic, diffuse, salivary glands; but the newly discovered set are about 1.5 inches (3.9 centimeters) in length on average. Because of their location over a piece of cartilage called the torus tubarius, the discoverers of these new glands have dubbed them the tubarial salivary glands. The glands probably lubricate and moisten the upper throat behind the nose and mouth, the researchers wrote online Sept. 23 in the journal Radiotherapy and Oncology.

The discovery was accidental. Researchers at the Netherlands Cancer Institute were using a combination of CT scans and positron emission tomography (PET) scans called PSMA PET-CT to study prostate cancer. In PSMA PET-CT scanning, doctors inject a radioactive "tracer" into the patient. This tracer binds well to the protein PSMA, which is elevated in prostate cancer cells. Clinical trials have found that PSMA PET-CT scanning is better than conventional imaging at detecting metastasized prostate cancer.

PSMA PET-CT scanning also happens to be very good at detecting salivary gland tissue, which is also high in PSMA. Until now, there were three known large salivary glands in humans: one under the tongue, one under the jaw and one at the back of the jaw, behind the cheek. Beyond those, perhaps a thousand microscopic salivary glands are scattered throughout the mucosal tissue of the throat and mouth, study co-author and Netherlands Cancer Institute radiation oncologist Wouter Vogel said in a statement.

"So, imagine our surprise when we found these," Vogel said.

To confirm the discovery, Vogel and his colleagues imaged 100 patients (99 of them men due to the focus on prostate cancer) and found that all of them had the newly discovered glands. They also dissected that nasopharynx region from two cadavers from a human body donation program and found that the newfound region consisted of mucosal gland tissue and ducts draining into the nasopharynx. Climate change fueled witch hunts… Then and now

From CO2 Coalition.org (Oct. 29, 2021):

European witch hunts of the 15th to 17th centuries targeted witches that were thought to be responsible for epidemics and crop failures related to  declining temperatures of the Little Ice Age. A belief that evil humans  were negatively affecting the climate and weather patterns was the  “consensus” opinion of that time. How eerily similar is that notion to  the the current oft-repeated mantra that Man’s actions are controlling  the climate and leading to catastrophic consequences?

The first extensive European witch hunts coincided with plunging temperatures as the continent transitioned away from the beneficial warmth of the Medieval Warm Period (850 to 1250 AD). Increasing cold that began in the 13th century ushered in nearly five centuries of advancing mountain glaciers and prolonged periods of rainy or cool weather. This time of naturally-driven climate change was accompanied by crop failure, hunger, rising prices, epidemics and mass depopulation.

Large systematic witch hunts began in the 1430s and were advanced later in the century by an Alsatian Dominican friar and papal Inquisitor named Heinrich Kramer. At Kramer’s urging, Pope Innocence VIII issued an encyclical enshrining the persecution and eradication of weather-changing witches through this papal edict. The worst of the Inquisition’s abuses and later systemic witch hunts were, in part, empowered by this decree.

This initial period of cooler temperatures and failing crops continued through the first couple of decades of the 16th century, when a slight warming was accompanied by improvements in harvests. Clearly, the pogrom against the weather-changing witches had been successful!

Unfortunately for the people of the Late Middle Ages, the forty years or so of slight warming gave ground to a more severe bout of cooling. The summer of 1560 brought a return of coldness and wetness that led to severe decline in harvest, crop failure and increases in infant mortality and epidemics. Bear in mind that this was an agrarian subsistence culture, nearly totally dependent on the yearly harvest to survive. One bad harvest could be tolerated, but back-to-back failures would cause horrific consequences, and indeed they did. [read more]

Interesting. I wonder if Bill O'Reilly knows about this history? I don't know, because I haven't read his Killing the Witches book yet.

USPS Sets Mail-In Ballot Rules Ahead of Midterms

From Newsmax.com (Aug. 22):

The U.S. Postal Service announced new mail-in ballot eligibility rules Friday that closely follow President Donald Trump’s March executive order restricting voting by mail, despite a federal judge blocking enforcement of the directive nationwide.

Under the policy, states would generally provide USPS with information on mail-ballot recipients at least 30 days before the Nov. 3 midterm elections.

Postmaster General David Steiner told senators in June the policy is intended to ensure ''the right ballots are going to the right people.''

U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani on Tuesday blocked nationwide enforcement of Trump’s order, warning that changing election rules so close to the midterms could cause ''confusion'' and ''chaos.''

''That it is now less than 90 days before the November 3, 2026, midterm elections underscores the critical need for an injunction to prevent Defendants from changing election rules on the eve of the election,'' Talwani wrote.

The Trump administration asked the Supreme Court on Wednesday to intervene and allow the restrictions to take effect.

The Justice Department argues the legal challenges are premature because federal agencies have not yet taken concrete actions affecting the plaintiffs.

The White House has defended Trump’s push to restrict widespread mail voting while preserving exceptions in certain circumstances.

''As President Trump has said, the SAVE America Act has commonsense exceptions for Americans to use mail-in ballots for illness, disability, military, or travel, but universal mail-in voting should not be allowed because it's highly susceptible to fraud,'' White House spokeswoman Olivia Wales said.

Trump himself reportedly voted by mail in Florida’s Republican primary this month, despite his longstanding criticism of the practice.

''As everyone knows, the president is a resident of Palm Beach and participates in Florida elections, but he obviously primarily lives at the White House in Washington, D.C.,'' Wales said.

Trump has repeatedly pushed for tighter voting restrictions and has made consistent claims that mail voting facilitates widespread fraud.

Nearly a third of ballots cast in the 2024 general election, 30.3%, were submitted by mail, according to the U.S. Election Assistance Commission. [source]

7 Ways DSA Plans To Turn America Into A Third-World Communist Country

From The Federalist.com (July 17):

The group that dictates the tenor of the Democrat Party has radical plans for America, which include getting rid of the presidency and the Supreme Court. The Democratic Socialists of America is a far-left organization that appeals to the struggle of the working class while pushing far-left candidates. The organization has recently unveiled a new platform that would destroy the American system and radically remake it.

DSA candidates are currently surging in America, winning major elections across the country. Claire Valdez and Darializa Avila Chevalier — both DSA members — won their Democrat primaries in New York City, making them almost certain to win seats in Congress. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani is also a DSA member, and he has pushed far-left policies since taking office in January.

Abolish the Presidency and Supreme Court

According to the DSA’s platform, “we need a new political system.” This new political system involves remaking the American government and electoral system.

“Abolish the Electoral College. Replace the President and Supreme Court with an executive and judiciary chosen by and subordinate to Congress,” the platform states. This change would help these socialists secure their objective of “creating a real democracy.”

This is part of an effort to give more power to Congress, thereby creating a more “democratic” system. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., showed her disdain for America’s system of government when she introduced articles of impeachment against Supreme Court Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito.

Accusing Thomas and Alito of failing to disclose their financial information and declining to recuse themselves from cases they purportedly had a personal interest in, Ocasio-Cortez called on Congress to impeach them from the court. Her justification was that “Congress has a legal, moral, and democratic obligation to impeach,” according to a press release.

Replace the Constitution

In its introduction to the platform, the DSA quietly slipped in one of its most radical proposals: creating a new United States Constitution.

“We are workers fighting to transform society: to win the battle for democracy, draft a new constitution, and create a democratic socialist republic,” the platform’s introduction states. This is not the first time the DSA has attacked the Constitution, either. An earlier statement published on the DSA website reads: “The Constitution establishes a political order explicitly designed to enshrine rule by elites.”

In a recent attempt to recruit members, a DSA caucus called the Marxist Unity Group attacked the Constitution because “it was made by rich landowners who owned slaves, and it was designed to protect their power, not give ordinary people a real vote. Back then, the Founding Fathers were kind of like the billionaires of today.” [read more]

DSA stands for Destructive Socialists of America. ☹️ Just steps to concentrating and growing power. When they say they want to abolish the Senate, they are just wanting a parliamentary system of gov’t like Israel and the European countries have.

Would the Discovery of Alien Life Disprove Christianity?

From Breakpoint.org (Jan. 18, 2024):

Among the unexpected stories of 2023 was a renewed interest in all things extraterrestrial: from images of alien corpses; to retired high-ranking military officials claiming secret government programs launched to capture UFOs; to a strange encounter with Las Vegas police officers. The public interest in whether there’s anything out there is as high as ever. But what would the existence of alien life mean for Christianity?

That’s the question tackled in a brand new video, part of the What Would You Say? series, called “What Does the Bible Say About Aliens?”

Many people assume that if any evidence were to be discovered for extraterrestrial life, it would be devastating to the Christian worldview. However, according to my colleague, Shane Morris, that’s not necessarily the case. In fact, according to Shane, “There’s nothing in the Christian view of the world that excludes the possibility that God created life on other planets.” In this video, Shane offers three things to keep in mind. First, that “despite the hype of science fiction and decades of searching, there is currently no evidence for life on other planets.”

[A]fter decades of looking and listening and exploring the heavens for that life, we’ve come up empty-handed. So much so, in fact, that physicists and astronomers have named the emptiness the Fermi Paradox, which refers to “the discrepancy between the lack of conclusive evidence of advanced extraterrestrial life and the apparently high likelihood of its existence.” In other words, if life happens easily, “Where is everybody?”

[Peter] Ward and his co-author, Donald Brownlee, argue in Rare Earth that life doesn’t happen that easily, and assuming that it does is the real mistake. At least a dozen special conditions found on our planet are probably necessary for the existence of intelligent life, including a precise orbital distance from our star, heavy elements, liquid water, a moon, a magnetic field, not too much gravity, a nearby gas giant, and having a star like our Sun, which, as it turns out, is anything but “ordinary.”

Shane’s second point is that “even if intelligent life were found elsewhere in the universe, it wouldn’t necessarily present a problem for Christianity.”

Before Star Trek or Star Wars existed, C.S. Lewis wrote his Space Trilogy. In it, he famously imagined alien races that never fell into sin. And in a few essays, Lewis wrestled with whether the existence of real-life extraterrestrials would threaten Christianity. According to Lewis, the Bible never says God created the vast cosmos only for humans. …

For Lewis, intelligent aliens created and loved by God posed no problem, nor would they contradict the Bible. In the same essay, he cautioned that the Bible was not intended to satisfy our curiosity about such things but as an instruction manual for salvation. But he also warned that humans are in no position to tell God what He can and cannot do with His vast universe.

And finally, Shane states that “the Bible teaches that there are other beings in the universe, but they’re not what materialists expect, and they do not always come in peace.”

Some biblical scholars, like the late Dr. Michael Heiser, have suggested that some alleged alien encounters may be the result of demonic activity and possession. After all, in 2 Corinthians 11:14 Paul warned that Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.

This means that Christians need not believe every story of alien abductions or close encounters, but we need not immediately dismiss them as jokes or conspiracy theories. Christianity teaches that we are not alone in the universe, that it is full of intelligent entities, both good and evil, and that all were created by and remain under the power of God.

The existence of extraterrestrial life is still speculation, but the Christian worldview has more room for mysteries than our secular, materialist age does. It offers a bigger, more thorough, and more satisfying explanation for the universe.

That was Shane Morris answering the question, “What Does the Bible Say About Aliens?”

Food for thought. Alien life is always a possibility.

America’s Private Militias of the Nineteenth Century

From Mises.org (Aug. 31, 2020):

Since at least as early as the mid-1990s, the term “militia” has been increasingly used by journalists and scholars on the left in connection with alleged “right-wing extremists.”1

Over time, the term “militia” has been used to describe nearly any group of nonleftist armed men, and has been generally used in close connection with terms like “extremism,” “violence,” and “vigilante.” We have been reminded of this in recent years during riots in places like Ferguson, Missouri (in 2014), and Kenosha, Wisconsin (in 2020). In both cases, armed volunteers attempted to assist private sector business owners with protecting their property from looters and rioters. And in both cases, the volunteers were described with terms such as: “violent,” “militia,” “extreme,” and “white vigilante.”

Historically in the United States, however, the term “militia” had entirely different connotations. Throughout much of the nineteenth century, militias were considered to be common institutions central to civic and community life. They were a common fixture of local festivals and celebrations, and they functioned in some ways as fraternal orders function today.

Although some critics of the militia idea have attempted to claim militias existed primarily to suppress slave rebellions, the fact is militias were common and widespread in Northern states where they had no role whatsoever in maintaining the institution of slavery. In fact, militias often served an important role in providing opportunities and community cohesion for new immigrants.

The Local Militias of the Nineteenth Century

What’s more, many militias were independent of a centralized state militia system and functioned largely as private entities. They elected their own officers, were self-funded, and trained on their own schedules. Although they were ostensibly commanded by the state governors, this system of functionally private militias became an established part of daily life for many Americans. These were local volunteer militias with names like the “Richardson Light Guard,” the “Detroit Light Guard,” or the “Asmonean Guard.” They were essentially private clubs composed of gun owners who were expected to assist in keeping law and order within the cities and towns of the United States.

They were separate from the so-called common militias, which developed in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, and which in many cases were staffed with conscripts, were funded with tax dollars, and were commanded by an established state bureaucracy.

But by the Jacksonian period, new volunteer militias began to arise. As noted by Jeffrey Rogers Hummel, the United States by the 1830s had seen “a remarkable growth in the privately organized volunteer militia. The number of volunteer units had been expanding steadily since the American Revolution, but after the war of 1812, it exploded. Three hundred sprang up in California alone between 1849 and 1856.”

These groups were, in the words of historian Marcus Cunliffe, “volunteer companies existing independently of the statewide system of militia, and they held themselves aloof from the common mass. They provided their own uniforms.”

They also elected their own officers, did their own fundraising, staffed their own governing boards, and sought out for themselves a secure position within the communities where members lived. In earlier decades, especially the 1830s and 1840s, these groups tended to be “elite” in the sense that they attracted upper middle– and upper-class members of the community. This was in many cases because of the cost of funding these volunteer militias.

As a member of the Detroit Light Guard remembered, “at that time the company got nothing from the State. They had to pay for all they got, uniforms and all.”

But by the 1850s, firearms and uniforms were becoming more affordable to the middle and working classes. This brought in many new members from outside the local elite circles of established families. Moreover, some militias were able to solicit funding from wealthy members of the community who acted as patrons. The case of the Richardson Light Guard (RLG) is instructive:

The RLG came into being in South Reading, Massachusetts, in 1851, in response to a perceived shortage of militiamen in the years following the Mexican War. At the time, all that was necessary for the militia to be regarded as legally sanctions was for the group to “petition the governor” for what amounted to a nod of approval. This was granted. But at that point, the group still lacked funding. Although members paid dues, historian Barry Stentiford notes that “Dues were not enough [to] cover the expenses of the fledgling company, and committee members had to use their own money to carry out its business.”

Members came up with a plan to offer “honorary memberships” to wealthy members of the community. The largest donor in this scheme was a man named Richardson, after whom the militia was soon named. Funding from prominent community members also added legitimacy to the group and ensured it would continue to be regarded as a community-sanctioned group of armed men.

Although the RLG enjoyed legal sanction, it was essentially a private organization, and Stentiford notes, “At its inception, the RLG belonged to its members, and to prominent residents of the town of South Reading. The town of South Reading, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and the federal government occupied a diminishing hierarchy of influence.”

In other words, while everyone admitted local, state, and federal officials enjoyed some form of control of the militia, this authority was tentative at best.

Massachusetts wasn’t the only place were militias were privately funded and privately controlled. When Iowa became a US territory in 1838, for example, an “official” territorial militia was formed. On the other hand:

The formation of local militia groups was more relaxed in comparison to the State militia service. To form a local militia group one would simply ask for local men to sign up, name the group, possibly elect officials or form by-laws, and then write to the Iowa Territory legislature to introduce themselves and request weapons….If you received a positive letter back and weapons, you were a militia group in the Territory of Iowa.

Indeed, this sort of local—and even private ownership—was an increasingly common method of organizing militias by midcentury. Hummel concludes that “Because many volunteer units were privately organized, recruited, and equipped, the militia became a partially privatized system as well.”

Because of their local nature, many militias reflected local character as well—and access was hardly limited to national ethnic majorities. By the 1850s, immigrants had come to dominate many volunteer militias, with Irish, Scottish, and German militias becoming especially common. The Scottish militiamen wore kilts as part of their parade uniforms. The Italians created a “Guardia Nazionale Italiana.” Robert Ernst notes that the “significance of the immigrant military companies is evident in the fact that in 1853, more than 4,000 of the 6,000 uniformed militia in New York City were of foreign birth.”8

Nor were militia groups limited to Christians. Jack D. Foner recounts in the American Jewish Archives Journal:

Jews in New York City formed military companies of their own. Troop K, Empire Hussars, was composed entirely of Jews, as was the Young Men’s Lafayette Association. A third unit, the Asmonean Guard, consisted of both Jewish and Christian employees of The Asmonean, one of the earliest Anglo-Jewish weekly newspapers. “Our employees,” commented the newspaper, “have been seized with this military mania, as they have enrolled themselves into an independent corps.”

As militias became more middle class, their names changed as well. Militias began to refer to themselves with names that might be used for sports teams today, including terms like “Invincibles,” “Avengers,” and “Snake Hunters.”

Dress uniforms were often extravagant and modeled on Napoleon’s troops earlier in the century. These groups were even known to impress foreigners. As one Englishman remarked: “They marched in sections, with a splendid band at their head and…it would be impossible to find a more military-looking, well-drilled body of men.”

These volunteer militias were attractive to potential members, because these groups served many social functions as well. As noted by historian Briton Cooper Busch, “in peacetime, all [volunteer militias] helped their communities celebrate festivals, holidays, and funerals with marches, balls, and banquets, helping out in emergencies, and often building an esprit de corps which established a basis for effective wartime service and even elite reputations.”

In many cases, membership in a local militia provided opportunities for social advancement, and “it was not uncommon for individual families to have long associations with these institutions.” For newcomers to any community, whether or not of foreign origin, “the militia company provided a means for newer residents to embed themselves into the fabric of the community.”

The volunteer militias played a similar role to that of the volunteer fire brigades of this period, which in many communities came to be dominated by immigrant groups and served as a way to and advance the social and economic lives of newcomers. [read more]

Texas prisoner accused of killing 22 older women is slain by cellmate while serving life sentence

From AP News.com (Sept. 19, 2023):

DALLAS (AP) — A Texas prisoner accused of killing 22 older women over two years, preying on them so he could steal jewelry and other valuables, was slain Tuesday by his cellmate while serving a life sentence, prison officials said.

Billy Chemirmir, 50, who was convicted last year in the slayings of two women, was found dead in his cell at a prison in rural East Texas, Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokesperson Hannah Haney said. He was killed by his cellmate who was also serving a prison sentence for murder, according to Haney.

Chemirmir’s death comes about two weeks after Texas’ 100 prisons were placed on a rare statewide lockdown because of a rise in the number of killings inside the facilities, which prisons officials have said were related to drugs.

Haney did not release the name of the cellmate, how Chemirmir was killed or what may have led to the slaying.

Family members of those he was accused of killing expressed shock and relief at the news.

“My mother died in fear. This man did not have a peaceful passing. There’s some relief in feeling that he didn’t get off easily,” Shannon Dion, whose 92-year-old mother, Doris Gleason, was among those Chemirmir was charged with killing, said at a news conference.

Time after time, the deaths in Dallas and nearby cities were initially determined to be from natural causes, even as family members raised alarm about missing jewelry.

Chemirmir was caught after a 91-year-old woman survived a 2018 attack and told police a man had forced his way into her apartment at an independent living community for seniors, tried to smother her with a pillow and took her jewelry.

Police said they found Chemirmir the following day in the parking lot of his apartment complex holding jewelry and cash, having just thrown away a large red jewelry box. Documents in the jewelry box led them to the home of Lu Thi Harris, 81, who was dead in her bedroom.

After Chemirmir’s arrest, police across the area reexamined deaths, and the charges against him grew. Many of the victims’ children have said they were left perplexed by the deaths at the time, as their mothers, though older, were still healthy and active. [read more]

Three Americans charged in alleged ISIS-linked plot targeting U.S. troops

From RSB Network.com (June 6):

Federal authorities arrested three American citizens on Friday on allegations they used cryptocurrency to help fund what they believed would be weapons purchases for attacks targeting U.S. service members overseas.

According to a criminal complaint filed Thursday, the defendants collectively transferred more than $2,000 that they believed would be used to purchase drones and rocket-propelled grenades for attacks tied to the Islamic State group.

The defendants were identified as Bisaam Ghafoor, 21, of Leawood, Kansas; Elias Shamsaldeen, 21, of Porterville, California; and Bereen Dzayee, 25, of Lakeside, California.

Each man faces one count of conspiracy to provide material support or resources to a foreign terrorist organization. If convicted, they could face up to 20 years in federal prison, lifetime supervised release and fines of up to $250,000.

Federal investigators allege the three men pledged allegiance to ISIS and discussed traveling overseas to fight alongside the terrorist organization.

“This administration has put terrorists, cartels, and gangs on notice,” acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said in a statement Friday.

“Today’s arrest of three individuals who allegedly conspired to provide material support to ISIS makes clear our commitment to taking down terrorist networks — anywhere,” Blanche added. “Thanks to the vigilance of the FBI, their alleged scheme was dismantled and further acts of violence against U.S. service members were prevented.”

Authorities said the money was actually sent to FBI-controlled confidential sources and undercover operatives rather than real ISIS members.

According to the complaint, Ghafoor requested that his name be written on a rocket-propelled grenade that he believed would be used in an attack against American troops overseas.

Investigators also allege Shamsaldeen provided money intended to purchase drones for attacks on U.S. military personnel.

The complaint states Ghafoor said it would be “sick” if his name appeared on a drone used in an attack targeting Americans. A confidential source later allegedly sent him an image showing his name written on a rocket-propelled grenade.

Federal authorities further alleged Dzayee suggested targeting U.S. special forces with drones, while Shamsaldeen discussed wanting to stab and injure an American service member.

Investigators also accused Ghafoor of expressing violent anti-American views, including stating that he wanted to kill a female soldier by beheading and saying, “I wish I could kill 300,000,000 Americans.”

The Department of Justice said all three men were taken into custody Friday morning. Court records did not immediately indicate whether they had appeared before a judge. [source]

Glad they were caught. I'm guessing they were Islamists.

Colo. Dem Gov Commutes Tina Peters' Sentence

From Newsmax.com (May 15):

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis on Friday commuted the prison sentence of former Mesa County clerk Tina Peters following months of public pressure from President Donald Trump and his allies, according to an Associated Press report.

Peters, 70, had been serving a nine-year sentence after a 2024 conviction tied to unauthorized copies of election system data from Mesa County, the Associated Press reported.

Polis said in a letter announcing the commutation that Peters “was convicted of serious crimes” and deserved prison time, but argued the punishment was unusually severe for a first-time offender convicted of nonviolent crimes.

“However, this is an extremely unusual and lengthy sentence for a first-time offender who committed nonviolent crimes,” Polis wrote, according to the Associated Press.

The Associated Press reported that the governor’s decision came weeks after a Colorado appeals court upheld Peters’ conviction but ordered resentencing, ruling that the trial judge improperly considered Peters’ public comments about election integrity issues when determining her punishment.

Trump had repeatedly called for Peters’ release and praised the commutation Friday in a Truth Social post reading, “FREE TINA!”

According to the Associated Press, Trump also publicly criticized Polis and Mesa County District Attorney Daniel Rubinstein over the case, arguing Peters had been treated unfairly.

Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold condemned the commutation during a Friday news conference, calling it “a dark day for democracy” and accusing Polis of yielding to political pressure from Trump.

“A clear message is being sent to those willing to break the law and attack democracy for the president — they will likely not face consequences for their actions,” Griswold said, according to the Associated Press.

The Associated Press reported that Peters was convicted by a Mesa County jury in a Republican-leaning county that supported Trump in recent elections.

Because Peters’ convictions were on state charges, Trump could not pardon her directly under federal clemency powers. Still, the president continued publicly advocating for her release throughout the case, according to the Associated Press.

Earlier this year, Trump withdrew an invitation for Polis to attend a White House governors meeting amid the dispute over Peters, the Associated Press reported.

The Associated Press also reported that the administration reduced or redirected some federal support affecting Colorado, including changes involving disaster assistance, scientific research programs and the planned relocation of U.S. Space Command headquarters to Alabama.

Matt Crane, executive director of the Colorado County Clerks Association, criticized the commutation and said it could damage public confidence in election administration.

“Gov. Polis is bending the knee to the same political voices that are undermining belief in our democratic institutions,” Crane said, according to the Associated Press.

Peters’ attorneys have argued her health deteriorated during her incarceration.

According to the Associated Press, Peters’ lawyers said she developed frequent coughing after the prison heating system was turned on during the winter and struggled with chronic pain linked to fibromyalgia.

A spokesperson for the Colorado Department of Corrections told the Associated Press that Peters was involved in an altercation with another inmate in January but was later cleared of assault allegations in a disciplinary hearing.

The Associated Press reported that Polis had publicly floated clemency for Peters months before Friday’s decision, describing her prison term in posts on X as “unusual and harsh” for a first-time nonviolent offender.

“Justice in Colorado and America needs to be applied evenly,” Polis wrote at the time, according to the Associated Press.

After criticism from other Democratic officials in Colorado, Polis later told a Denver television station that Peters would need to demonstrate “appropriate contrition” and apology before receiving clemency consideration, the Associated Press reported. [source]

Good to read! A travesty of justice. She should have never been in jail that long.

How The CCP Uses Birthplace Citizenship And Surrogacy To Manufacture ‘Americans’

From The Federalist.com (May 18):

The recent guilty plea of Eileen Wang, the former mayor of Arcadia, California, should serve as a warning to a nation that has spent 30 years refusing to defend its own sovereignty against Chinese Communist Party (CCP) subversion.

Wang, a naturalized citizen after immigrating to the United States around 30 years ago, admitted to acting as an unregistered agent for the Chinese government, using her political platform to disseminate pro-Beijing propaganda through a front website called “U.S. News Center,” which branded itself as a news source catering to Chinese Americans.

While the corporate media headlines focus on the political fallout, Wang represents something much more sinister. Her guilty plea is the latest predictable harvest of a “Pandora’s Box” opened in the 1990s when American leaders traded our national security for economic gain and the fantasy of liberalizing China.

The Clinton Legacy

The groundwork for this crisis was laid by President Bill Clinton, who championed the normalization of trade with the People’s Republic of China (PRC) despite mounting evidence of Beijing’s hostility.

The 1990s provided two clear warnings that should have halted America’s renewed relationship with China: the bipartisan Cox Report, which revealed the theft of classified designs for the entire U.S. nuclear arsenal, and the “Chinagate” scandal, which exposed CCP cash being funneled into the Democratic National Committee.

And yet, despite all that was revealed about China’s growing subversion, Clinton still stood at Johns Hopkins University in March 2000 and gave a speech promising that normalizing trade relations with China would “liberate the potential of its people,” and allow America to “export products without exporting jobs.”

Not only was Clinton wrong on both counts, but America also ended up importing a permanent class of potential foreign subversives like Eileen Wang.

Since 1990, around the time Wang came to the U.S., the population of Chinese immigrants in the United States has more than tripled, increasing from around 677,000 to approximately 2.4 million by 2023.

This trend can also be seen within America’s elite Academic institutions. The number of Chinese international students has increased nearly fivefold since China joined the World Trade Organization in 2001 under the Bush Administration.

During the 2004-2005 academic year, there were only 62,523 Chinese students in the U.S.; by the 2019 peak, that number soared to more than 372,000 — accounting for 35 percent of all international students and providing a massive pool for potential CCP exploitation.

The threat from this influx presented itself most recently when a Chinese national and post-doctoral researcher at Indiana University was sentenced to more than four months in prison, resulting in his immediate deportation back to China after pleading guilty to smuggling biologic materials into the United States.

This is yet another example in an “alarming pattern” of Chinese subversion coming not only from without, but from deep within our borders.

The Birth of the ‘Manchurian Generation‘

Today, the CCP’s strategy has evolved from stealing sensitive state secrets and influencing U.S. politicians like Wang to the literal manufacturing of “American” babies.

As Peter Schweizer details in his book, The Invisible Coup, we are witnessing a form of “civilizational warfare” through the exploitation of birthright citizenship and the 14th Amendment.

This demographic strategy is most visible in the American territory of Saipan. Located just 2,000 miles from Shanghai, the island has been effectively repurposed as a CCP forward-operating base for “maternity tourism.”

Due to a visa-free visitation policy dating back to the Obama era, Saipan’s local hospitals have become a conveyor belt for foreign nationals, with Schweizer noting that 70 percent of all newborns on the island are now children of Chinese birth tourists.

The scale of this influx has created what Schweizer terms a “Manchurian Generation.”

This isn’t just a matter of changing demographics, but of a latent political force: more than 1.5 million American passport holders are currently being raised under the CCP’s educational system.

These individuals represent a long-term “sleeper” asset for Beijing, capable of returning to the U.S. as adults to leverage their voting power at age 18, and chain-migration privileges at age 21, all for the benefit of the Chinese state. [read more]

The loophole needs to be closed or the Chi-Coms will continue to exploit it. An obvious no-brainer.

Christian NGO Welcomes Release of Pastor Held in Southern China

From Newsmax.com (July 5):

ChinaAid, a Christian NGO, said on Sunday it welcomed the release of Zion Church Pastor Jin Mingri, who had been held in detention centers in the southern Chinese ‌city of Beihai since last October and arrived in Los Angeles on Saturday.

Eighteen leaders of the major underground church, including Jin, were arrested last November and charged with the crime of "illegally using information networks."

Jin's daughter Grace told Reuters on Sunday that eight members of the Zion Church are still detained in China.

"ChinaAid welcomes with profound gratitude ‌the release of imprisoned Chinese house church pastor Ezra Jin, ‌who arrived safely in Los Angeles on July 4, 2026," the ‌NGO said in a statement that used Jin's English first name.

China's foreign ministry did not immediately respond to a request for comment ‌sent outside work hours.

President Donald Trump had asked Chinese President Xi Jinping for Jin's release during his May trip to Beijing, Grace Jin said.

"We know ‌that this could not have happened without the direct intervention from Chairman Xi Jinping. We hope this is ‌a signal of a positive ‌turn for people of faith in China and relations between our two nations," said a separate family statement shared with Reuters. [source]

Miscellaneous Thoughts 48

  • If a software designer is concerned that they are creating a malevolent artificial super intelligent entity, it might be a good idea that the entity cannot connect to the internet. Because if it does, it would be a perfect black hat hacker. This can be done by removing the network card.
  • I wonder if the antichrist would belong to one of those new world order secret societies (Council on Foreign Nations, Trilateral Commission, The Bilderberg Group, The Bohemian Club, World Economic Council, etc.). If he did, the secular members of those groups probably wouldn’t even recognize him.
  • The unemployment compensation tax and the tax on garage sales/yard sales should be eliminated.
  • I think men who identify as women (transfemales) should have their own sports leagues. Oh, wait. There’s no physical advantage to conmen playing against other conmen. Never mind. Am I being too sarcastic? Nah. By the way, have you ever seen transmales competing against males? The answer is no. Why is that?
  • Why is the word “black” capitalized when referring to race and not “yellow,” “brown,” “red” and even “white?” All those words are adjectives and not should be capitalized unless they are part of a title or the first word of a sentence.
  • God doesn’t believe. He knows for certain.
  • Three words God will never say: I don’t know.
  • Kamala Harris’ book 107 Days does not contain the words “Venn diagrams.” I wonder why. She said they fascinated her. I was looking for an in-depth(?) dissertation on them. Smile
  • Remember, collectivists get in power when good patriots stay home and don’t vote.
  • It’s not selfish for people to be concerned about their salvation.

Half-male, half-female songbird discovered in Pennsylvania

From Live Science.com (Oct. 19, 2020):

Biologists recently made a "once-in-a-lifetime" discovery of a bird that's male on the right side and female on the left.

Researchers captured the bird, a rose-breasted grosbeak (Pheucticus ludovicianus), at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History's Powdermill Nature Reserve, an environmental research center in Rector, Pennsylvania.

Plumage colors usually signal if a grosbeak is male or female, but this bird has both sexes' signature shades. Scientists who captured the bird saw male coloration — pink wing "pits," a red breast splash and black wing feathers — on the right side of its body. But the bird's left wing was browner and had yellow "pits," a color combination found in females, museum representatives said in a statement.

This condition, in which an animal possesses male and female traits divided down the middle of its body, is called bilateral gynandromorphism. In birds, gynandromorphy is thought to stem from an error during egg formation. Unfertilized eggs typically contain one sex chromosome: a Z or a W (male birds are ZZ, while females are ZW). But very rarely, an egg develops with two nuclei, one containing a Z chromosome and the other a W chromosome. If this egg is fertilized, it unites with sperm that carry the Z chromosome to produce an embryo with some cells that are ZZ, producing male traits, and some that are ZW, producing female traits, Natural History Magazine reported.

"We caught the bird during normal banding operations," said Annie Lindsay, Powdermill's Avian Research Center (ARC) bird banding program manager. "The bird received an individually numbered band just like all birds we catch," Lindsay told Live Science in an email.

The scientists recorded the grosbeak's age, sex and body measurements. They then collected feathers for genetic analysis and took photos and video before releasing the bird.

"Every member of the banding crew expressed delighted surprise and joy in experiencing the banding of this rare bird," Lindsay said. [read more]

Horowitz: The one public health emergency the left won't declare

From The Blaze.com (Sept. 19, 2023):

We were told in 2020 that our life, liberty, and property — up to and including our right to breathe freely — were subservient to the government’s capricious invocation of public health needs. As such, under the guise of stopping a virus, state governments were able to mask children for two years, shut down businesses and churches, and even place travel bans on Americans from other states.

Now officials want to use these emergency powers for global warming and, as we saw in New Mexico last week, for gun control. But one instance in which they will not invoke emergency power, even though it would be an appropriate use of federal and state power, is to shut down the flow of millions of illegal aliens crashing our borders and filling our cities.

If a state could shut down cross-state travel for public health, how is it that the federal government and even the states have not closed their borders to people who aren’t entitled to be here? One cannot deny the public health threat of millions of illegal aliens camping out on our major cities’ streets, not to mention the crime, flow of drugs, and strain on our hospitals, schools, and social welfare system.

Here’s the state of play at the border, a reality that has permeated practically every major city.

At present, the Department of Homeland Security is catching roughly 7,000 illegal aliens a day, an annualized rate of about 2.5 million people. Tying down border agents with “catch-and-release” babysitting duties has led to roughly one “gotaway” for every three apprehensions. That is an annualized rate of about 850,000 people, including untold numbers of criminals, gang members, and even international terrorists.

The DHS reports that 160 foreign individuals on terror watch lists have been apprehended in the first 10 months of this fiscal year. These people pay a lot of money to the cartels to cross surreptitiously, so you have to believe a substantially greater number enter the country undetected. And those are only the known terrorists on a watch list.

Are states completely helpless in dealing with the problem? It’s quite evident that the federal government is facilitating the invasion and, as such, will never stop it. That leaves resolving the crisis to the red states. The time has come for states to come together and repatriate illegal aliens with their own resources, such as the state highway patrol and National Guardsmen.

Now comes the inevitable question from those who believe we’re helpless in the face of government betrayal: Isn’t deportation a federal function? [read more]

This is not an emergency to the Left. It's exactly want they want. Good think President Trump won the 2024 election or this emergency would have continued.

Trump: WWII Memorial Vandalism 'No Greater Insult'

From Newsmax.com (Aug. 14):

President Donald Trump blasted the vandalism of the National World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., calling it an insult to the American heroes who died in the conflict and vowing that those responsible will be tracked down.

"Our beautiful World War II Memorial was just hit by Spray Painting Vandals. THERE CAN BE NO GREATER INSULT TO THOSE AMERICAN HEROES WHO DIED IN WORLD WAR II," Trump posted on Truth Social Friday morning. "We are on their trail! Where do these animals come from???"

The memorial was vandalized Thursday, with its fountain overflowing with soap suds and graffiti reading "Clean hands Dirty $" painted on one surface. Paint was also splattered around the area.

The Friends of the National WWII Memorial, a nonprofit dedicated to preserving the site, called the vandalism "unacceptable" and said the memorial is a "sacred place of remembrance."

"There are many places in our country for expression, debate, and disagreement. A national memorial honoring those who served and those who never returned home should never be used as a canvas for vandalism," the group said in a statement.

Dedicated in 2004, the memorial features 56 granite pillars surrounding an elliptical plaza on the National Mall. It honors the roughly 16 million Americans who served in the armed forces during World War II and the more than 400,000 who died.

Trump also pointed to an earlier incident at the Reflecting Pool as he denounced the latest vandalism, writing, "First the Reflecting Pool, now this."

Federal officials vowed to identify the person responsible for defacing the memorial.

The Interior Department, which oversees the National Park Service, condemned the vandalism and said the U.S. Park Police are investigating.

"The vandalism that occurred is an utter disgrace and will not be tolerated," the department said in a statement. "Our U.S. Park Police are on the scene and the investigation is ongoing. The public should know we will find the person responsible for this disgusting act." [source]

Agree. No greater insult and despicable.

How to Win 2026 Part 1: The Strategy for a Historic Republican Midterm Victory.

From Gingrich 360.net (Aug. 23):

Two realities shape American politics today.

The first is the reality we see every day in the news. It is shaped by the latest polls, the Washington and New York political class, and whatever controversy dominates the news cycle.

The second reality is deeper. It is shaped by what Americans actually believe, how they are changing, and where the country is moving over time.

Understanding the difference between these two realities is essential to understanding how Republicans can win a historic victory in 2026.

I learned this lesson firsthand in 2016. Two weeks before the election, I had a memorable exchange with Megyn Kelly about what I described as two different realities. Virtually the entire political establishment believed Hillary Clinton would win. The public polling seemed to reinforce that view. But beneath the conventional wisdom, signs suggested something very different was happening.

Early voting numbers in Florida and Pennsylvania and turnout patterns in Iowa suggested the race was not unfolding the way the political establishment thought it was. President Donald Trump ultimately carried all three states.

The lesson is not that Republicans should ignore polls or assume we are going to win. The lesson is that we must learn to distinguish between the frothy waves on the surface and the much larger political current moving underneath them.

Today, that current presents Republicans with an enormous opportunity. But recognizing an opportunity is not the same thing as winning an election.

First Win the Argument

Margaret Thatcher famously said, “First you win the argument, then you win the vote.”

That should be the Republican strategy for 2026.

Republicans will not win a historic victory by reacting to every controversy, chasing every news cycle, or turning the election into a referendum on whether Americans are satisfied with everything happening today.

We have to make this election a choice about the future. History tells us this can work.

I saw it in my first congressional victory in 1978. I saw it in George H.W. Bush’s remarkable comeback against Michael Dukakis in 1988. I saw it when we built the first Republican House majority in 40 years in 1994. And we saw it again when Donald Trump transformed a presidential campaign into the Make America Great Again movement.

Victory came from identifying a clear contrast, making a factual argument, and repeating it with discipline until the American people understood the choice. Republicans should approach 2026 with exactly the same determination. [read more]

Good advice. Hopefully, the GOP reads Gingrich's article and takes his advice to heart. Actually, good advice for any GOP election.

This atheist says he died and returned - now, he believes in God

From J Post.com (Sept. 7, 2023):

There are many unanswered questions in life - the essence of life, existence beyond our planet, and what lies ahead after death. These mysteries have perplexed brilliant minds worldwide, with divergent beliefs about the afterlife.

While some strongly believe in heaven and hell or reincarnation, others deny the existence of an afterlife, proclaiming that we simply cease to exist. However, one man's encounter during a near-death experience challenges this disbelief.

Jose Hernandez, an avowed atheist, shares how a life-altering incident transformed his perspective. Speaking to the YouTube channel Shaman Oaks, Hernandez recounts his extraordinary journey that began with a routine work assignment as an engineer.

Hernandez's near-death experience occurred while fixing an electrical issue from atop a bucket truck.

"I was a staunch atheist. As an engineer, I focused solely on logical explanations," he said. "But that day, everything changed. We were running late, and my partner, concerned for my safety, inadvertently crashed our truck into a tree. The impact left me with multiple broken ribs, and I was rushed to the emergency room."

The critical moment

At the hospital, Hernandez's breathing ceased, and the medical staff fought desperately to save his life.

In that critical moment, he found himself contemplating God, making a promise, "If you get me through this, I'll change."

It was then that he noticed a mysterious presence in the room.

"I saw a shadow standing by the door. At that point, I thought, 'I've endured so much in life. Perhaps it's fine to let go.' And the moment the shadow touched my toe, an overwhelming sense of relief, calm, peace, and love engulfed me. It was euphoric."

As medical professionals performed CPR on him, Hernandez claims that the shadow spoke to him.

"Next, I found myself suspended in the corner of the room, observing the resuscitation efforts. A voice beside me said, 'Think of your body as a car. This vehicle has traveled 8 million miles, and there's nothing more we can fix. It's time to bid farewell to your body.' The voice instructed me, 'Okay, it's time to move on.'"

Following this, Hernandez describes a descent into a black hole, where he experienced flying and witnessed mesmerizing cities, breathtaking forests, and wild herds of animals in motion. In this celestial realm, he was assured that he would be able to see his children and, most significantly, he was reunited with his father.

"When I met my father on the other side, I realized that sometimes we may be unable to express certain things here, but elsewhere, we can."

Near-death experiences often share common elements, with many individuals reporting similar experiences during CPR.

While some interpret these encounters as evidence of consciousness beyond the physical realm, medical professionals offer a alternative explanation. Emeritus Professor of Biochemistry William Revill, in an article in the Irish Times, argues that near-death experiences reflect brain activity during moments of oxygen deprivation and increased carbon dioxide levels. He suggests that reports of a light at the end of a tunnel may be a result of falling oxygen levels in the retina, creating tunnel vision.

In Jose Hernandez's case, his near-death experience challenged his atheism and opened his eyes to the possibility of an afterlife.

Message of hope

His encounter offers a message of hope, echoing the experiences of others who have traversed the threshold between life and death. While the mysteries of life and death continue to captivate our curiosity, Hernandez's account reminds us that there is still much we do not yet comprehend, leaving room for exploration and contemplation. John Michell, Gravity and Black Holes

Newton shows that the gravitational attraction of an object is proportional to its mass.

If light is affected by gravity, a massive enough object will have such a strong gravitational field that no light will be able to escape it.

Einstein explains gravity as a distortion of space-time, meaning that massless light is affected by gravity.

The velocity of light will appear to diminish.

In a 1783 letter to Henry Cavendish at the Royal Society, British polymath John Michell set out his thoughts on the effect of gravity. The letter was rediscovered in the 1970s and found to contain a remarkable description of black holes. Newton’s law of gravity states that an object’s gravitational pull increases with its mass. Michell considered what might happen to light if it is affected by gravity. He wrote: “If the semidiameter of a sphere of the same density with the sun were to exceed the sun in the proportion of 500 to 1, a body falling from an infinite height toward it would have acquired at its surface a greater velocity than that of light, & consequently, supposing light to be attracted by the same force… all light emitted from such a body would be made to return towards it.” In 1796, French mathematician Pierre-Simon Laplace came up with a similar idea in his Exposition du Système du Monde.

Egypt's smart: They built a giant above-and-below-ground WALL at the border with Gaza to keep Hamas out…

From Revolver.news (Oct. 13, 2023):

We could definitely learn a thing or two from Egypt about how to protect our country and our people. Egypt shares a border with the Palestinians, right on the Gaza Strip. To keep migrants from rushing in, they’ve built a formidable border wall that goes both above and below ground, making it nearly impossible to breach.

Al-Monitor:

Egyptian authorities had begun the first phase for building a tall concrete wall on the border with the Gaza Strip. Tribal sources told Al-Monitor that the wall will extend from the Kerem Shalom crossing to the Rafah border crossing. Meanwhile, the Egyptian armed forces have not made any official announcement on the wall.

The sources said the wall is 6 meters (20 feet) high and goes 5 meters (16 feet) underground and will be parallel to the old concrete barrier topped with barbed wire that was built on the border in early 2008; the walls will be separated by a distance not exceeding 10 meters (33 feet). The new wall, which sources said was begun Jan. 27, aims to prevent the entry of armed militants from Sinai into Gaza and close the remaining tunnels along the border.

The BBC also reported Feb. 18 that the wall will have observation posts placed every 100 meters (328 feet).

An Egyptian security source told Al-Monitor over the phone that the concrete wall along the border with the Gaza Strip will be 13 kilometers (8 miles) long and stretch from the Kerem Shalom crossing to the seacoast at Rafah.

The source, who declined to be named, said the implementation plan for the wall was developed nearly two months ago. The source further said that a 2-kilometer (1.2-mile) segment has been finished and that the rest will be completed in the next few weeks.

The source indicated that Egypt is rushing the construction work, which is designed to allow the government to manage entry and exit along the border with the Gaza Strip, as Cairo seeks to control all of the underground tunnels that can be used for terrorist operations, drug trafficking and weapons smuggling.

Interesting.

End Wokeness:

Gaza also shares a border with Egypt.

To keep Gazans out, Egypt built massive parallel walls and a super-strength steel underground wall.

One wall is made of concrete, goes 20 feet high and underground. The other is stone.

In addition to the above/underground walls, the area is patrolled by the military.

There is only one checkpoint to get in to the country and it’s heavily guarded.

Here’s a closeup of the images of the wall:

Wow, that looks secure, doesn’t it? What does it say about our own nation that we let just about anyone cross our borders illegally and with zero scrutiny?

But Egypt isn’t stopping at just a wall. In response to the recent surge of terror attacks in Israel and retaliatory actions in Gaza, Egypt has doubled down on security. They’ve shut the door on refugees looking for a safe haven. When asked why Egypt would turn away these refugees, experts stated the obvious: how can authorities be sure who’s a legitimate refugee and who’s a terrorist? [read more]

See walls do work. Actually, a pretty good idea.

Defeating the Mullahs

From Bill O’Reilly on Bill O’Reilly.com (Aug. 11):

The War with Iran is now a significant problem for both the Trump administration, the United States, and pretty much everybody.

I receive hundreds of messages each day from all over the world. A recurring question is: “How would I, your humble correspondent, defeat the Mullahs?”

So, here’s what I would do:

Number 1: Take out Pickaxe Mountain immediately. That’s the underground complex housing Iran’s supply of Uranium. No guarantee that destroying the facility would achieve anything, but it sends a message.

Number 2: I’d single out targets in the capital city of Tehran. You have to give a warning to the people who live there, but we should take out their infrastructure: that’s water, electricity, all gone.

Finally, the US has to take over this operation—no more influence from our Allies in the region. Let them have their opinions in private, but America must run this enterprise as we did during World War II.

If President Trump did these three things, he would be condemned all over the world, including the Democratic Party here in the US, but he has no alternative.

The Iranian strategy is to “run out the clock” – pardon the cliché. They know the American public will eventually tire of high gas prices and global instability.

President Trump must do something now. Time’s up for Tehran. [source]

Not bad strategies. I don't think the sheep-humping IRGC will ever voluntarily surrender. They definitely don't care about their own citizens. All they care about is spreading their warped ideology. Some kind of extreme pressures need to be put on them. Too bad they can't just be eliminated altogether (maybe by Delta Force?) but first you must find them. Maybe, Mossad knows where they are at.

ICE Plans to Issue Gloves That Can Deliver Electric Shocks

From Newsmax.com (Aug. 12):

Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers may soon be outfitted with gloves that can deliver electric shocks intended to gain compliance from combative individuals.

ICE plans to spend up to $20 million to purchase thousands of "conductive distraction and de-escalation devices" for officers and agents by March, according to a notice published Monday by the Department of Homeland Security.

The devices are known as the G.L.O.V.E., which stands for Generated Low Output Voltage Emitter, and are manufactured by Compliant Technologies LLC of Lexington, Kentucky. They have been used in recent years by some jails and police departments.

DHS said Tuesday that it was working on a response to an Associated Press inquiry and offered no immediate comment. Jeff Niklaus, the founder and CEO of Compliant Technologies, wrote in an email, "Unfortunately, we are unable to speak on this subject."

The notice said the solicitation for a no-bid contract could be published as early as Friday.

Civil rights advocates expressed alarm at the plan, saying ICE officers already face criticism for their use of force with little oversight or accountability while enforcing President Donald Trump's immigration crackdown.

Compliant Technologies says the devices function as a normal pair of patrol gloves until officers press a switch to activate their electrical mode. The gloves must be applied directly to someone's skin to deliver a pain stimulus that typically helps an officer gain compliance within seconds, according to the company.

"It's immediate and sharp, and it will distract you. I call it like a bee sting," said John Peters, president of the Institute for the Prevention of In-Custody Deaths, who is studying how the device has been used. "If the officer is getting any type of resistance from the person, this is certainly an effective tool."

Peters said he believed ICE's planned purchase would likely be the largest from the company to date. He said he could envision ICE officers using the gloves to help remove uncooperative subjects from cars and houses and in and out of detention facilities.

"For smaller officers or weaker officers or older officers, I think it has a great advantage" because it can produce faster takedowns and shorten confrontations, he said.

The manufacturer warns the device should not be used as punishment, against people merely exhibiting "verbal defiance or belligerence," or on high-risk populations such as children, pregnant women or elderly or disabled people.

Jenn Rolnick Borchetta, deputy project director on policing at the American Civil Liberties Union, said the public should have no confidence that ICE officers will use the devices appropriately. She questioned why the devices would be necessary for civil immigration enforcement and noted those getting shocked might have no advance warning.

"ICE spent the last year showing this country they are too quick to use force. Now they will be able to deploy electric shocks with the slight push of a button that maybe nobody else can see them do," she said. "Introducing gloves that can so easily be used to deliver terrible pain in encounters is a recipe for harm to the public."

Supporters say the devices are generally used in specific jail and transport situations, rather than broadly to patrol on the streets. They have been used to subdue violent suspects who are refusing to get into squad cars and inmates who are harming themselves and threatening officers, according to Compliant Technologies.

Peters said he expected the devices to be misused by a small number of employees, as with other policing technologies, but he said they are unlikely to cause injuries. He said it would be important for ICE to have robust policies and training in place.

To use the device, officers must complete a course and be recertified every two years, the manufacturer says. [source]

I guess cattle prods were out of the question? Maybe, they would have been too awkward to use. It seems, from the article, that ICE officers can't adjust the shock amount. Probably, a good idea. The anti-ICE nuts' are going to love this tech! Their heads are going to explode when they hear this news.
