Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has filed a motion for preliminary injunction against the Biden administration for allegedly censoring American media companies with which it disagrees.
In December, Paxton, The Daily Wire, and The Federalist sued the State Department, Secretary Antony Blinken, and other government officials, claiming they conspired to censor, deplatform, and demonetize American media outlets shunned by the federal government.
"I am proud to lead the fight to save Americans' precious constitutional rights from Joe Biden's tyrannical federal government," Paxton said in a press release. "The State Department's mission to obliterate the First Amendment is completely un-American. This agency will not get away with their illegal campaign to silence citizens and publications they disagree with."
The motion, filed in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas Tyler Division, says the plaintiffs "hereby move to preliminarily enjoin Defendants from continuing to fund, test, market, promote, host on its platform, and/or otherwise assist with or encourage the development or use of technology that targets in whole, or in part, Americans' speech or the American press."
Mark Chenoweth, president and general counsel of New Civil Liberties Alliance, which is serving as co-counsel, said in the press release: "The State Department supposedly developed these speech-suppressing technologies to combat foreign propaganda overseas. That the federal government now sees fit to wield these weapons — or put them in others' hands to wield — against American citizens and stateside media outlets is as frightening as it is forbidden."
The Texas attorney general is no stranger to litigation involving the Biden administration and has sued them multiple times during his tenure.
The Daily Wire made the following statement to Newsmax: "The Biden administration is illegally funding organizations with the stated goal of financially crippling media outlets whose coverage does not walk in lockstep with the government's ideological agenda.
"We sued the Biden administration before over its unconstitutional vaccine mandate, and we won. This time, we're suing for our rights, all news organizations' rights, and the constitutional guarantee of a free press that all Americans deserve."
Newsmax reached out to The Federalist for comment as well. [source]
Good for him. More AGs should sue this regime for censoring. The Left needs some push back for their oppressive actions.
